What is SPF?
SPF or Spruce, Pine and Fir are Canadian softwood species and are grouped together because of their similar characteristics.
SPF species are known to have moderate strength, can be easily employed, can be painted, hold nails well and are white to pale yellow in color.
There are two types of SPF woods depending on its origin in Canada -
Eastern Canada SPF is comprised of:
Red Spruce, Black Spruce, Jack Pine, and Balsam Fir
Western Canada SPF is comprised of:
White Spruce, Engelmann Spruce, Lodgepole Pine, and Alpine fir
Western SPF is the primary group of species traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the timber group of choice for our company.
